A tablet is an electronic device that is intermediate in size between a computer and a mobile. Its main characteristics are the following: its lightness, its intuitive handling using the hands, its high autonomy of use and the non-dependence of other complementary accessories.
From a historical point of view, the first tablets or tablets to hit the market appeared in 2010 (the first was Apple’s iPad) although there are devices that were clearly a precedent (especially the teleautograph, invented at the end of the 19th century to write by hand and at the end of the 1960s, the Dynabook appeared, a system for entering military information in a portable way).
From the point of view of the consumer, each electronic device satisfies certain needs, so it is convenient to establish which are the main advantages of tablets.
Reasons to use a tablet
It is very common for a consumer to hesitate about buying a tablet or a laptop. It is logical that there are doubts, since both devices offer advantages and disadvantages.
– A significant reason to opt for the tablet in its mobility and portability (a very low weight compared to the laptop). There are tablets on the market from 7 inches and most of them incorporate a GPS system, which makes it possible to use them anywhere.
– Regarding the price, the user can find a very wide range, in such a way that his purchase can be adapted to his pocket.
– The operating systems of these devices allow considerable speed and immediacy, the applications they incorporate are very accessible and the processes for handling them are faster than in laptops. It must be borne in mind that the tablet is operated with the hands, probably the most ductile and efficient tool that exists (artificial hands have not yet managed to overcome the dexterity of human hands).
– The autonomy of tablets is increasing (current batteries allow autonomy of approximately 10 hours). This makes it possible for the user to watch a movie or browse the Internet without depending on an excessive time limitation.
– The tablet is a multifunctional device (in computing the term multimedia is used more), which implies the possibility of using its screen, its speaker or its camera in a very fast and functional way.
There is a general agreement among experts in the field of new technologies, who consider that a laptop is useful for creating content while the tablet is ideal for consuming content.
