Story The Princess and the Jasmine (Read and Listen)

Story The Princess and the Jasmine: adaptation of the popular story from Spain.

Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess who lived in a huge and luxurious palace.

We may think that she had everything, but no… The princess lived locked up because her parents, the kings, did not even allow her to go out to play in the garden. The girl felt sad and she only had a beautiful jasmine for company. To this delicate flower she told her sorrows and her most intimate desires.

– Oh, friend jasmine…! I’m always bored within these four walls. On the other hand, the chickadee’s daughter runs around the garden chasing butterflies and feeling the fresh grass under her bare feet. How I would like to go running and play outdoors!

The flower, which was magical, felt sorry for the girl and wanted her to fulfill her wish.

– Come out if you want, dear princess. So that they don’t find out, I will guard your voice while you are gone.

The girl was very happy and left the palace, avoiding the sentinels at the door. No one noticed that she had left.

The queen passed by her room a while later and knocked on the door.

Knock Knock knock!

– My daughter, are you there?

Jasmine responded imitating the princess’s voice.

– Yes, mom, I’m reading!

The mother left calmly, but two hours passed and the girl did not come down to eat, so she went back up to her room.

Knock Knock knock!

– Are you still reading, daughter? Are you OK?

– Yes, mom, I’m still reading, don’t worry.

But the queen, surprised that her daughter was so engrossed in reading, decided to enter without asking permission. There was no one there.

– But daughter… Where are you? I can’t see you!

– I’m here, mom – said the jasmine from its pot.

The queen heard the voice but did not see her daughter. Frightened, she called the king, who in turn called the guards.

– Dear, you will see for yourself how in this room you can hear our daughter’s voice but there is no trace of her – said the queen, dismayed.

The king did the test.

– Daughter… Are you here? Where are you hiding? Come out so we can see you.

– I’m here, dad – jasmine answered with the girl’s voice.

The queen was looking at the flower and realized that it was she who was speaking.

– Oh it can not be! “She,” she whispered, scared, putting her hands to her mouth, “This flower is haunted!” That jasmine speaks as if she were our daughter!

The king, astonished, plucked the flower from the ground and gave it to a soldier.

– Throw this jasmine into the fire right now! I want it to burn in the fireplace until only ashes remain!

Just then the little princess appeared through the door begging.

– Please do not do it! That jasmine is the only company I have on my days of loneliness. He just wanted to help me so I could go out and play for a while.

The king did not give in. He wasn’t going to let his darling girl have an enchanted flower. Who knows what spells or curses he could do!

– No way! Don’t even dream of it! That damn flower is going to disappear from my sight right now!

The princess made a quick movement and took the jasmine from a lanky soldier who was holding it in amazement while waiting for a new order. She opened her mouth and swallowed it.

From that moment on, the flower lived inside her forever and legend has it that everyone who approached the princess noticed a delicate aroma of jasmine perfuming their mouth.
