Story The boy and the sweets (Read and Listen)

Story The Boy and the Sweets: adaptation of Aesop’s fable.

There was a boy with a very sweet tooth who always wanted to eat sweets. Her mother kept a container full of candy on top of a kitchen shelf and from time to time she would give her one, but she measured them out because she knew they were not very healthy for her teeth.

The boy was dying to get the container, so one day when his mother was not at home, he pulled a chair up to the wall and climbed on it to try to reach it. He stood on tiptoe and, balancing on his toes, picked up the glass jar he so coveted.

Objective achieved! She lowered herself very carefully and licked her lips thinking about how delicious they would be melting in her mouth. She placed the jar on the table and easily put her hand into the hole. He wanted to grab as many candies as possible and gorge on them! He grabbed a large handful, but when he tried to remove his hand, it got stuck in the neck of the container.

– Oh it can not be! My hand is stuck inside the candy jar!

He pushed so hard outward that his hand turned red as a tomato. Nothing, it was impossible. He tried turning it left and right, but that didn’t work either.

He shook the jar carefully so as not to break it, but the little hand still didn’t want to get out of there. Finally, she tried to hold him between his legs to immobilize him and pull his arm, but not even with that.

In desperation, he threw himself on the ground and began to cry bitterly. His hand was still inside the jar and as if that were not enough, his mother was about to return and she was afraid that she was going to give him a serious fight. What a genius her mother had when she got angry!

A friend who was walking near the house heard the boy’s cries through the window. As the door was open, he entered uninvited. He found him kicking with rage and out of control.

– Hello! What’s the matter? I heard you from the street.

– Look what a disgrace! I can’t take my hand out of the candy jar and I want to eat them all!

The friend smiled and knew very well what to say to him in that moment of frustration.

– The solution is easier than you think. Release some candies from your fist and settle for only half. You will have plenty of candy and you will be able to remove your hand from the neck of the container.

The boy did so. He peeled off half of them and his little hand came out easily. He wiped away his tears and when his annoyance passed, he shared the sweets with his friend.

Moral: Sometimes we insist on having more than we need and that brings us problems. You have to be sensible and moderate in all aspects of life.
