MAN Network Definition

For those who speak English and do not know much about computers, the MAN network concept may sound like something like “red man”. Going back to our “network” refers to a normal network of the type such as the Internet, “MAN” is an English acronym that means “Metropolitan Area Network”. Thus, we have the literal meaning, Metropolitan Area Network. Once the term has been explained, it must be said that its own translation defines it, it is a network in a metropolitan area.

There are many types of MAN network, but the function of these various types is essentially to provide an interconnection to an area where many people live and/or work so that the inhabitants of that area can share video and voice over a copper cable. or fiber optic. There are other terms such as LAN network, translated; local area network, as well as WAN network translated; wide range network, the MAN network differs from the other two mentioned (LAN and WAN) in that its maintenance is considerably less expensive and that you can always predict how many people are going to connect to the network simultaneously, not predict exactly but yes, with very little margin for error, it is for this reason that when we are on vacation in an area, sometimes the network of the place of rest falls because more people are suddenly connected than the network supports and it “jams” for say it somehow

MAN networks are based on the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standard translated as Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. This standard gives the network reliability, stability, security, as well as other favorable qualities that contribute to making its maintenance cheaper. A MAN network can be made up of a few LAN networks or even many LAN networks, it can be made up and include other smaller networks within its structure, etc. There are many combinations.

MAN networks can have many applications, such as video surveillance, WIFI zones in addition to the typical Internet connection and many other applications that we are not going to discuss. They can be public or private, the private ones are the well-known internet providers, for example, and the public ones are those that connect a whole series of public buildings to a central database to coordinate, for example, the census of workers who contribute to social security.
