Hope is defined as one of the most positive and constructive feelings that a human being can experience. Hope is that feeling that makes an individual build a situation of improvement or well-being towards the near or distant future. In other words, the person has complete confidence that what he expects will happen or will happen. In order for such a feeling to be present, the person must have an optimistic attitude, thus turning hope into something better, something that, on the contrary, will be very difficult to feel in cases of depression, anguish or anxiety.
Unlike optimism, hope is a type of feeling that generally arises in certain and specific situations, while optimism is rather a constant attitude towards the way events unfold in one’s life. Hope can come and go according to circumstances, and while we consider ourselves hopeful about the resolution of a particular issue, we may not feel the same when circumstances change. Hope is then described as a state of mind and not as an attitude towards life, although both things (hope and optimism) can complement each other.
From a religious point of view, hope is not simply a state of mind, but also one of the three theological virtues postulated by the Catholic religion that, together with faith and charity or love, have been given by God to the human being so that this is his reflection on Earth. Here, hope ceases to be a physical sensation of joy or satisfaction to become a grace that we must all recognize in our hearts and place at the service of building a better tomorrow.
One of the most important Catholic theologians and philosophers in history, Saint Thomas Aquinas He has defined it as that virtue that predisposes and enables the trustworthy individual and then he will have full certainty that he will be able to achieve the eternal life that God has promised him.
It is also worth noting that these three theological virtues together with the cardinal virtues of temperance, justice, fortitude and prudence they form a unit that ideally defines the Christian man.
In this sense, the other side of hope will be the despair which will not only imply the absence of hope but also the feeling of anger and anger, that is, there is no hope and the state is accompanied by anger.
Hope can also be viewed from an unreal or fantasy point of view. This happens when we are in the presence of people who develop a high level of false hope to manage their daily lives. These false hopes are usually characterized by the lack of reality or by not being applicable in everyday life, which can easily lead the person to suffer all kinds of disappointments, surprises and disappointments. There are also individuals who trigger false hopes in others, through their actions and behaviors, which of course, when discovered, will plunge the person who placed their trust in them into a state of disappointment.
Meanwhile, we can find the concept of hope integrating another important concept of our language and that presents a widespread use, such is the case of Life expectancy.
It will be called like this average number of years that a total population lives during a certain period of time. It should be noted that a distinction is made by gender, that is, the sexes, female and male, are measured separately, to of course obtain specific information based on the number of years that each sex lives.
Life expectancy will also be influenced by factors such as age hygiene that is practiced, the quality of health care, warsamong others.
The measurement carried out in 2010 showed that life expectancy is between 69 and 64 years, although it usually varies substantially depending on the place on the planet that is observed, because for example in North America and Europe is almost 73 years and in the African continent no more than 55 years.
And Hope is also a proper name corresponding to the feminine gender. It has a Latin origin and means precisely the wish for a better future to come.
