When you talk about animals that migrateWe often refer to birds. This is so because the birds are around us and we realize when they come and go. We know about geese, hummingbirds for example. But there are also other animals that migrate. There are migrations due to the season of the year and animals that migrate to reproduce.
Birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and even insects migrate. Deer, elk, bighorn sheep, and pronghorn are some examples of migrating mammals. Gopher snakes, rattlesnakes, and other animals migrate elsewhere in the fall.
The frogs migrate to the waters to lay their eggs. Salmon migrate to the ocean and return to spawn. Monarch butterflies fly south from the United States to spend the winter in Mexico, and some species of dragonfly migrate along the Pacific coast in the fall. So the migration isn’t really just for the birds!
