Definition of Personal Data

Personal information they imply all that information inherent to a person and that as such allow him to be identified accordingly, that is, they give him a real existence.
Among these data we can highlight: name and surname, date and place of birth, age, real address, telephone number, marital status, names and surnames of their parents, employment status, studies completedto cite those that are marked as basic personal data of a person.

The satisfactory disposition of these personal data is of the utmost importance for any person because they are what allow them to be identified as we have already indicated and also because they allow them to link with the corresponding public or private organizations, and that in that interaction they are not confused with another person.

If a person goes to a public agency to obtain a benefit, one of the first things they will be asked to do is fill out a form in which their personal data will be entered. This is essential to be able to contact him in the future, that is, if the person does not properly inform his personal data, it may happen that he cannot be located or that the benefit that is sought is granted to another person.

Personal data is also very important when investigating a crime, since when the suspect or person responsible for an illegal act is identified, it will be possible to arrest him and start a case for him to comply with a sanction for having committed that crime.

At present, and as a consequence of the phenomenal dissemination of information that new technologies and telecommunications allow, people’s personal information is being treated irresponsibly by many companies that manage to obtain it.
Surely you did not give your phone number or email to the credit card company but it obtained it through your cell phone company and then contacts you to offer you a benefit.

This type of situation is what we call irresponsible use of personal data, because undoubtedly there must be an agreement on the part of the person when supplying them, a fact that in this case has not occurred.

With the intention of counteracting this situation, most of the world’s legislation already includes a section that deals precisely with ensuring the security of personal information. When this is not respected then a sanction will ensue.
