Good fans of pop culture, which goes beyond the world of comics, know that every summer an international convention is held in the Californian city of San Diego. It is one of the world’s most prestigious events in the comic sector and has been taking place since 1970, and as a result of its success, various editions are observed throughout the planet.
What can we find at Comic Con?
Every year the organizers try to excel with all kinds of events and activities. In most editions, attendees can participate in costume contests dressed as famous people. The latest editorial novelties appear and the great creators sign autographs. Thematic conferences are held and prizes and distinctions are also awarded (the Eisner awards are considered the Oscars of the world of comics).
As in any other event of these characteristics, there are film screenings, sale of merchandising items, exhibitions of exclusive collections of comic strips, sale of films, reproductions of film sets or adventure comics, etc. In the different editions of Comic Con, the different subgenres of comics appear: manga, anime, fantasy, science fiction, black series, war, underground, etc.
Comic Con attendees can find Star Wars products, fans dressed as Superman, Batman, Iron Man or any of their favorite characters (whoever dresses up in fictional clothing is a cosplayer and everything that surrounds this world is knows him with the word cosplay, a contraction of costume play or costume game).
For the event to be a success, it has the support of volunteers and attendees have to register online in advance. In recent editions, the figure of 100,000 fans has been exceeded (in the world of comics, followers are known by the term fandom). Each year the participants can purchase an official Comic Con t-shirt. This fair is so popular all over the world that it attracts people from all countries and for this reason it is quite common to access the venue after waiting long hours.
