Architect and Italian painter: was born in 1444 in Fermignano, in the Duchy of Urbino and died on April 11, 1514 in Rome, in the Papal States. His full name was Donato Di Pascuccio D’Antonio, but he was also known as Bramante Lazzari. His work introduced Renaissance architecture to Milan and the High Renaissance style to Rome. His plan for St. Peter’s Basilica was part of Michelangelo’s design. Pope Julius II commissioned him to build a sanctuary over the place where the remains of the apostle Peter rest.
